A feature image, which rotates seasonally or as new products are launched, now introduces visitors to Saloom on the website. The left side navigation allows viewers to quickly navigate toward their desired product destination. A series of optional filters allow users to narrow their search by collection, style or design features. The sales ordering app, developed over 18 months with experts at AMPTAB Inc. in Seattle, takes the custom ordering process and makes it into a fast and accurate process that keeps pricing and the product catalogs at the salesperson’s fingertips.

The sales app is a tool designed with the retail sales person in mind, addressing the need for a way to quickly and accurately write an order without being encumbered by catalogs, pricelists, and lots of finish and fabric samples. The app, available on iPad or on desktop and laptop computers allows a sales person to find, customize, price and submit an order in a fraction of the time it previously took.

Atlantic teams with Kathy Fielder for licensed collection

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. – Accent, storage and entertainment furniture vendor Atlantic Inc. has a new licensing collaboration with designer Kathy Fielder to launch a collection of ready-to-assemble home furniture solutions.

Fielder is founder CEO and chief designer of Kathy Fielder Design|Life|Style, a design and lifestyle company.

“As a lifestyle design expert, my desire is to create beautiful and inviting pieces that graciously unite home and family environments with function, creativity and beauty,” said Fielder.

“We are very thrilled to be working with Kathy Fielder to design and build stylish home furnishings that are enticing,” said Leo Dardashti, president and CEO of Atlantic Inc. “This partnership will develop a collection of desirable and relevant products for today’s home owners.”

Atlantic and KF Design will collaborate to develop unique home furnishings that address storage, entertainment and organization. These multi-functional modern and transitional pieces will be constructed with mixed materials such as metal, wood, glass, fabric and polymers.

Jerome's first Dream Shop opens

SAN DIEGO — Jerome’s Furniture has returned to downtown San Diego with the opening of its first Dream Shop, aiming to capitalize on its already dominant market share in the bedding category.

The 3,000-square-foot store at 11th Avenue and Market Street downtown is its first devoted exclusively to the mattress category and brings “Jerome’s retail presence back to the area where the company began in 1954,” the company said.
“Our roots are in downtown San Diego and it’s rewarding to be able to re-establish a presence in the neighborhood where my grandfather started the business,” said Jim Navarra, executive vice president of the family-owned Top 100 company.
“We saw a significant opportunity to fulfill the area’s growing number of residents with top-tier mattresses at our everyday low Jerry’s Prices. We’re excited to be back in downtown San Diego.”

Brian Woods, CEO of the 13-store Southern California retailer announced plans for the store in May, noting it would offer the retailer’s full line of primarily proprietary product, developed with supplier partner Diamond Mattress along with the Aireloom luxury mattress brand and bedding accessories.

He said the retailer plans to open several stand-alone Dream Shops in both its San Diego and Los Angeles markets.

Jerome’s is No. 37 on Furniture Today’s survey of Top 100 U.S. Furniture Stores with estimated 2016 furniture, bedding and accessory sales of $230.1 million.

Korea Lines outbids Hyundai for Hanjin assets

Korea Lines, has entered the container shipping business after a South Korean court approved its bid for assets of Hanjin Shipping.Hanjin’s bankruptcy, and the carrier’s tie-ins with other carriers through vessel sharing agreement, created havoc for shippers in the midst of the U.S. holiday importing season.
Final sales documents will be signed Nov. 21, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Hyundai Merchant Marine had been the early favorite in the fight for Hanjin’s 7% market share in Asia-to-United States container business, but the Seoul Central District Court regarded Korea Line’s offer, which included employee retention, as more favorable. No other details on the bid are available right now.
The deal included ship assets as well as Hanjin’s 54% stake in California’s Long Beach terminal, according to the report.
While the Hanjin saga appears to be nearing an end, ocean freight carriers still face a capacity glut that could offset the near-term spike in rates that followed Hanjin’s going into receivership in late August.
More will be known on the effect on shippers after the rate-negotiating season ends in late first-quarter, early second-quarter next year.

Compliance with lead standards gets closer scrutiny

HIGH POINT — Lead standards for a variety of consumer products ranging from metal components to furniture, toys and even food products have been in place for many years, but those standards appear to be getting headlines of late thanks to various enforcement actions aimed at protecting the general public.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Attorney General’s office have announced either product recalls or settlements involving products with lead content.
This year, for example, the CPSC has announced three recalls involving furniture with excessive levels of lead paint. These included an outdoor wicker chair sold by Pier 1, a piano bench sold by Yamaha Corp. and several metal top dining tables sold by RH. The CPSC advised that consumers stop using the items and remove them from areas that children access in the home.
Last year, the California Attorney General’s office also announced multiple Prop 65 settlements involving products containing high levels of lead or lead compounds found primarily in components. The settlements are a way for companies to avoid costly legal proceedings involving a Prop 65 violation.

According to a 2016 report, there were more than $3.3 million in out-of-court settlements involving lead or lead compounds, or about a third of the total, and about $9.2 million in court-approved settlements, or 46% of the total for the year.

Williams-Sonoma opens dual-concept store in Seattle
